Synchronizing Servers for Cutover

AA-00405

Applies To:

DynaCenter Console 2.5.0 and later

Background:

In scenarios where you plan to decommission the source server and use the migrated server as the production server, you can configure DynaCenter to periodically sync the migrated (target) server with the source server to maintain data consistency. By regularly syncing the migrated server with the source server, you minimize the maintenance window needed when you cutover to the migrated server.

More Information:

The KB article Data Sync Best Practices: Quiesce Database Servers Before Sync provides more information about quiescing servers during sync and cutover operations.

Resolution:

To ensure data consistency between the source server and the migrated server, DynaCenter allows you to continuously sync data until it is time to decommission the source server and cutover to the migrated server:
  • Syncs reduce the data change set between the source server and the migrated server in preparation for the cutover sync. The frequency with which you sync servers should be defined by the volatility of the data on the server—servers with volatile data should be synchronized more frequently; however, it is recommended that you sync at least once each day. For these sync operations, DynaCenter quiesces services on the migrated server only.
  • Run the cutover sync when you are ready to cutover to the migrated server and decommission the source server. During the cutover sync DynaCenter quiesces services on both the source server and the migrated server. By quiescing both servers, you help to ensure that the synchronized data on the migrated server is consistent with the data on the source server before the cutover.
