Symptoms:

When trying to deploy a Microsoft Windows 2003 image, the deploy process fails with the following error:

Path not found (c:\windows)

Applies To:

DynaCenter 4.6.0 and later

Background:

When a Windows server is upgraded from an older version of Windows Server (for example, from Windows 2000 or Windows NT 4.0) to Windows 2003, the server might retain the legacy location for the Windows directory, namely C:\WinNT. As DynaCenter is expecting the Windows directory on a Windows 2003 system to be in C:\Windows the deploy process might fail.

The issue can be avoided by creating a symbolic link between the C:\WinNT and the C:\Windows directories.

More Information:

The Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit Tools includes a tool called MKlink that can be used to create a link between directories:

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=17657

Resolution:

1. On the source server, create a symbolic link between the C:/WinNT and the C:/Windows directories.

2. Re-migrate the server.
